Carpal tunnel syndrome

This is a nerve disorder of the hands and arms that causes pain and loss of feeling especially in the thumb and first 3 fingers. Causes: Pressure on the median nerve caused by swollen, inflamed and scarred tissue, resulting from a sprain fracture or arthritis.

Massage both hands, arms and shoulders twice daily, pay particular attention to the wrist and perform lots of upward strokes over wrist and lower arm areas.

Essential oils: – chamomile german, eucalyptus radiata, lavender, myrtle, rosemary, sweet marjoram.


Hand Contusion

Bruising of the skin and underlying tissue. Place the hand in a bowl of ice and leave there for 10 mins. Do these 3 times a day for 2 days. Also massage as often as possible.

Wrist sprain

Over-stretching of one or more ligaments in the wrist. Apply an ice pack 3-4 times a day. Then massage wrist and hand in upward motion.

Oils; – black pepper, cardamon, ginger, sweet marjoram.


Tennis elbow, Epiconylitis

Inflammation of bony areas of the elbow, affecting the elbow muscles, tendons and epicondyle (the bony prominence on the outside of the elbow where muscles of the forearm attach to the bone of the upper arm.

Massage the oils into the area then all over the arm with upward strokes. Ice helps, place a bag of crushed ice around the elbow using plasters or a bandage to keep it in place.

Oils; – chamomile, clary sage, cypress, ginger, hyssop, rosemary, rose otto

The trouble is caused by straining the muscles, specifically those on the outer side of the elbow and below the joint. Pain, stiffens and swelling are the results.


Inflammation of the tendons of the wrist can become a work hazard if the fingers and joints start to lock. Symptoms usually start with a tingling numbness in the fingers and hands. Ice and massage especially between the phalanges (finger joints)
